about

‘Breezy’ is a collection of propulsive jams that is an exploration of absurd and sonically interesting record samples coupled with distinctive vocal melodies and harmonies. Purposefully anti-pop, ‘Breezy’ derives its' production influence from 1990's punk rock. Big, emotive choruses are notably absent, maintaining The Thangs aesthetic of disjointed song structures. This collaboration between The Thangs and Mike Robinson highlights the strengths and maturation each member brought to the project.

The Roland 808 sampler was the primary instrument used in the creation of these songs, adding its' signature compression and feel to each record sample. Software kicks and bass tones were added to provide a balanced low-end, enhancing the overall listening experience. Allowance of “happy accidents” and idiosyncratic textures of record noise give the recording a warmth and charm that gets better with each listen.

Robinson's resonant, brooding vocals were recorded using a broadcasting microphone that effectively captured the intimate low frequencies of his unique vocals. Lyrics were written by Robinson, with additional lines contributed by the all three producers when needed. The lyrical themes of the songs reflect the beauty and absurdity of our modern existence, with existential musings that walk the precipice of agnosticism and the "spirituality" of nature.

The impressive, surreal cover art was created by Rodger Binyone of No-Man Illustration. A master printmaker and friend of the trio, Binyone's visual interpretation of the recording showcases the detail and expansiveness of his work.

the THANGS - "a tinge of Emergency Broadcast Network…there's a clear reminiscent feel of the 80's – head nod to Stetsasonic :) - though it carries with it a timelessness lent by the record pops and scratches…the synths hint at new wave revival without being overly emotional…at two minutes it's a sprint, not a marathon, gets out of the gate well and finishes with flying colors…" meteor3 ... more
